My Intent to Catch Up Just Got Caught Up

I told you last night that I was going to do the Insanity workout this morning. Well…that didn't exactly happen the way I had planned. I woke up with a headache and headache + Insanity = no good. So, I slept for about an hour more and planned to do it after I got home from work.

Plan Successful! I just finished Plyometric Cardio Circuit. I can’t say, though, that my reunion with the hard core cardio was necessarily successful. I think I ran myself out during the warm up and was practically kaput throughout the rest. I went faster than I ever recall going when I first started and ended up getting one of those runner’s cramps in my belly.

If you were ever a fat kid made to run a mile in elementary school, you might know the feeling. It kind of feels like someone is stabbing you in the lower left gut. It always came whenever I started out too strong. Hmm. The dots connect! I guess I just pushed myself harder than I was supposed to. And, like my fat kid self in elementary school, didn't have much gas to finish the rest. (To finish that story, I ended up walking and finishing past the 20 minute mark.) Memories…ah, I’d really like to NOT relive those. Lol.

By the way, I wasn't the only fat kid walking the mile RUN. My friend was walking beside me. :D He was fat too. (I think that’s one of the reasons we were friends.)

Anyway, I just finished dining on a banana and still have my 2-cups of chocolate milk left to drink. Whoever though exercising was horrible never got chocolate milk as a recovery drink. ;) I kid you not though, my coach told me to drink it if I didn't have any other form of recovery drink. At first I felt super guilty, but now it’s almost like a luxury.

This one is going to be short too. Have a nice ni…morning. There are some silly pics below!!

Playing Catch Up

I know, I know. It’s terribly late at night and I am playing catch up. But, better late than never.

Ya see. I literally just finished Thursday’s workout, Legs and Back and Ab Ripper X. I was actually planning to do it this morning when I was supposed to wake up at 8:40am. I even set my phone, aka alarm clock, across the room so that I’d get up and stay up. I also went to bed at the earliest time possible so that I could get enough sleep in order to wake up so early. (Earliest time being around 12:45am.)

My plan failed when I got startled awake for no reason at 7:34am. I got up, checked my phone that was across the room, and decided that I could put my phone close to me because I would wake up in an hour. Yeah right! The alarm sounded and I delayed it…about 10 times, eventually waking up at 1:40pm. I know, I know; I’m ridiculous. My husband tells me this all the time. He doesn’t see how a person could sleep so much. (I tell him that if we have a child, I won’t be sleeping much at all. Lol)

Anyway, tomorrow is supposed to be my rest day. I plan on getting up early though to play catch up for Friday’s workout, which is Plyometric Cardio Circuit. Once that is completed, I’ll have successfully completed the first week…even though I technically skipped two days.

Onto the workout tonight. I really just want to talk a little bit about the Ab Ripper X portion. I’ve come to the point where I am able to do more of the moves. Though very painful, I can usually push past it mentally and keep going. I did make a few faces throughout though, along with the grunting I described last time. I was able to take pictures of those faces too for your viewing pleasure. :D

Ow!!
Are you serious!! This hurts so much!!
Done with Ab Ripper X...oy!

Also, I’ve been excitedly awaiting the delivery of my eBay bought Brazilian Butt Lift. I got it for $24 cheaper than on the beachbody website (score!) and it just arrived today!! I’ll have to look through it to determine when I’ll start but having it is one step to getting the firmer tush that I want!

Since it’s so late and because I have to use the restroom REALLY bad because of the liter of water I just drank along with the 2 cups of chocolate milk (“recovery drink”), I guess I will end here. (Go to the bathroom, you say...well, I was hoping I would be done uploading before the urge got too bad.) Have a great morning!

Me enjoying my banana, which is also part of the recovery meal
Brazilian Butt Lift!! I like this photo because of the plastic wrap reflection!! You know what that means. Plastic Wrap means NEW!!

Someone Almost Died Today!!

Today was a very important day for America’s future. But, so as not to get off on some sort of debate, I’ll just keep it strictly exercise.

I like to do my workouts as soon as I wake up. No matter what time it is, it’s just what I prefer to do. Sometimes it happens at 8am, sometimes at 5pm. (My schedule is wonky because of the work shift that I have.) Regardless, I’d rather get it over and done with when my day “starts.” Today was no different. I woke up at 4:30pm and started prepping for the first day of Insanity in my new hybrid schedule; Max Cardio was on for today. Shorts on and drawstring tightened. Check. Water bottle full. Check. Tissue nearby. Check. (My nose runs when I exercise :/ ) I was ready.

Before I entered my workout area (which also happens to be my craft area…we have a one bedroom apartment, mind you) I went to the bathroom to get my tissue and got a little bit of a surprise. Ya see, we’ve had a problem keeping our 2 kiddos in their cages (by kiddos, I mean hamsters.) It all started a while ago when Truffle, my hamster, found some sort of exit point from his cage. We have yet to figure out how he is going about this because the bars don’t seem wide enough to squeeze through, even for a hamster. We’d come home from work and find him casually running around the house; we’d put him back and not even thirty minutes later, he’d be doing the same thing. We recently taped up the edges of the cage so as to deter Truffle from getting out. It worked. However, when my husband cleaned the cage recently, he had to take the tape off and didn’t reapply it.

Yesterday, I came home from work only to find Truffle running around the house again! Oh me! I ignored him and went to sleep only to be woken up a few hours later by my husband who was waving a cup in my face. Still half asleep, I peered in the cup only to see my husband’s hamster, Scamp. Somehow, Scamp found Truffle’s exit point and decided to use it. Now, we have two hammies running around the house.

Onto what I was talking about earlier. I went into the bathroom and the surprise I got was that Scamp was running around my feet. Unlike Truffle, who runs away if you get within a 10 foot radius of him, Scamp will actually take the time to crawl up your leg if you allow him to. Since I was moving, the only thing Scamp did was bite my toe. (Stupid little…) With that, I gently nudged him along and he ran out of the bathroom and only God knows where.

After accumulating my tissue, I started the video and got ready to sweat. I made it through the warm up with no real problem other than my jaw locking up. It was so painful I almost cried…but I didn’t. I moved my jaw around, sucked it up, and kept going. Later in the video, we had to do diamond jumps. I’m not particularly good at these, but I decided to do my best anyway. I moved to the living room, which was about 5 steps forward and faced the mirror that’s against the far wall. (The mirror helps me check my form.) As I was doing (or trying to do) these diamond jumps, my feet land on the floor and I noticed that something furry and white was just a few centimeters from where I landed. Ack!! When I paused to try to scurry him along, he crawled on my foot and bit my toe again! (Stupid little…)

He finally ran away and I was able to complete the rest of the video without near killing my husband’s “baby.”

Also, just recently, I received my heart rate monitor in the mail and have been able to track my calorie burn and heart rate the past two workouts. Today, I noticed that the numbers ranged from 154-171 during today’s workout. (For some reason, the 171 occurred during the “recovery” phase of the video. Ha! My heart rate spiked when were did the over the river jumps!) My calorie burn ended up being in the 700’s! It was a great workout and even though I didn’t sweat as much as I usually do, I know that I’ll be feeling it tomorrow! (good sign!)

Btw, I am in pain!!! My abs, back and shoulders hurt so much from pushing myself on Monday! By the end of today’s workout, I could barely lift my arms to do the cool down breaths. (I did anyway, though.) And, even unloading the dishwasher made my legs all shaky. :D It’s a good feeling, but it still hurts. :D
There's the little Scamp!!

Oh yeah!

Not super sweaty, but before I exercised, my hair was really frizzy and sticking up in random directions...I think the sweat smoothed it some :D

Time to Stop Being Lazy!!

Last week, I said that I was going to start Insanity. Well, that didn’t happen. I missed Monday by getting up way to late to do anything and then later that day, found out that perhaps Insanity isn’t the best thing for me to be doing. Instead, I decided on a P90X/Insanity Hybrid that I will be doing for the next 89 days. (I competed Day 1 today.)

Basically, what I wanted out of a scheduled workout program is muscle building/toning and some fast paced cardio. With Tony Horton taking care of the muscle portions, and Shaun T with the cardio, I think I may have found a winner that will hopefully help me lose more weight as I tone my muscles.

Today was Chest and Back and Ab Ripper X with Tony Horton. I really wanted to push myself in this first workout because I’d been a pretty severe slacker the last two weeks. I felt it more though in Ab Ripper X. In the past, I would wimp out if it hurt too much. (And, folks, it does hurt!) Today, I decided to grit my teeth (literally), endure the momentary discomfort, and do what I could. Through the grunting and gritting of teeth, I managed to find a WARM FUZZY!!

The last set of ARX is Mason Twists. It’s almost like you are rowing a boat except your knees are in the air a few inches off of the floor. You do the side to side motion with your hands 50 times and it BURNS! Somehow, even though I was filling my house with grunting, I managed to do a complete round! I had to close my eyes and grit my teeth, but I did it!!

Even if you have slacked off for the last two weeks, like me, I encourage you to get moving again. I felt so much better about myself and I know that hard work really does pay off. I’ve seen it!

P.S. this has no relevance to exercise whatsoever. But, I have recently found something fun that I like to do: Knitting. I saw some knitting needles at a yard sale for $1 and then decided that I should learn how to knit. I watched a few Youtube videos on how to get started and now I am almost done knitting a scarf!!
